Workshop: Love - if the evolution becomes conscious of itself

Where were you when the Big Bang happened? This question most likely triggers head shaking and scepticism. But if you can say that you were there when the Big Bang occurred, you will probably have a sense that in the depths of your consciousness, there is no past, no future, only the moment. And in that moment, everything can be felt and experienced. You will also intuit that you are an integral part of the cosmos. As such, you realize that your body reacts to the same laws as all other life forms. And your spirit and its expression are also part of the cosmic order.

Asking if you were there when the Big Bang happened, however, is not a popular question. Questions more common would be: Were you present when princess Diana died? Were you at the papal elections of Ratzinger in 2005? Were you at the football World Cup held in Germany 2006? These questions demand a simple yes or no. They are related to time and place, and clearly are easier to answer than the question about the Big Bang.

There is another category of questions that is also easier to contemplate than the Big Bang. At the same time, these questions often cause discomfort for the individual who tries to answer: Were you present as a father? Did you take part on September 11th, 2001? Did you take part in the Krystall Nacht in 1938? Were you there as Auschwitz happened? Are you present in the Iraq war? In Afghanistan? This last group of questions challenges us to be fully present for life’s “big” events, whether they occurred in the past or present - suggesting that all that ever is, or was, or will be, are an inherent part of our consciousness and human experience.

Thus, we can say that all of the above questions — from the Big Bang, to the ones that involve action in our lives, to the ones that show us how good and evil are reflected in worldly events, lead to yet another question, a question that – depending on how you answer it - has the potential to transform your life and the collective: Are you taking part now at this moment?

Those who answer this question with a clear “yes”, are evolving creatively at an evolutionary level. They know that nothing is permanent; everything organically changes all the time. Such changes, however disruptive, are not random. Rather, they have purpose and meaning – even when we don’t see what the exact meaning is.

Answering, "yes" additionally takes us to an inner space that is very amazing: In our deepest awareness we realize our physical being and ego are not who we are - we disappear like the master behind her work of art. And the subsequent expanding emptiness overflows into infinite compassion for all beings — friend and enemy alike.

Feeling this quality of compassion leads to a radical forgiveness that overcomes splitting and other ways we constrict our true Self. Such forgiveness is the bridge between good and evil, suffering and joy; it ends the war – inside and out. Depth psychology also teaches us this - we are the givers of its gestalt, we are the evolution itself.

In sum, radical forgiveness is the expression of the evolution’s mystery, which has no beginning and no end. The evolution takes place in this moment and will lead to reconciliation among all beings; it will be a reconciliation between you and me - and a Union with the One you really are – Infinite, Unconditional Love.
